Healthy Living Network Leeds is one of 257 Healthy Living Centres in England of which 7 are based in Leeds. We are a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. Healthy Living Network Leeds operated under the name of West Leeds Healthy Living Network for almost five years. Following consultations with staff, directors, members and partners, the decision was made to change the name from West Leeds Healthy Living Network to Healthy Living Network Leeds and to broaden our area of benefit from West Leeds and neighbouring districts to Leeds and neighbouring districts.
HLNL has a Chief Officer, Community Health Programmes Manager, Neighbourhoods & Environment worker, Training Development Worker, Community Health Educator (CHE) & Health Trainers (HT) Co-ordinator, Extended Schools Worker, CHE’s assistants, Admin Staff, CHE’s & HT’s.
HLNL has been extremely successful and is a key player both at local level and also citywide. We received a grant of £1million pound funded by the Big Lottery and the West Leeds Primary Care Trust for a 5year project. We have been commissioned by the Leeds PCT to develop the Community Health Educator Project, food work and further Healthy Living Activities.
This is an exciting and challenging time for HLNL, as we enter our next stage of development, a new business plan is in operation and although the Big Lottery Grant finished on 1st September 2007, the organisation’s finances are in a robust position with good reserves. Our turnover is roughly £250,000ks per year.
We are in the process of negotiation with the Primary Care Trust and Leeds City Council to look at future developments. The Board anticipates that Healthy Living Network Leeds future will depend on a mixture of grants, social enterprise, and commissioning from both NHS and LA.
HLNL has been commissioned to deliver the Food Access project for Leeds, funded by the Well Being fund, for three years. HLNL will also be delivering CHE’s training for both this and another city wide project Older & Active.
Citywide we are a key player and sit on the Health Forum managed by Leeds Voice and the Healthy Leeds Partnership. The 7 Leeds HLC meet to share information and develop joint pieces of work, this has included a joint evaluation. Our Chief Officer is chair of the recently constituted Yorkshire and the Humber Healthy Living Consortium and a Director of the National Healthy Living Alliance. Staff members sit on a number of other strategic boards and groups throughout the city. |
