This terms Training Programme has been a great success. We have now got several waiting lists for various courses next term. Many people have made use of the free bursary places provided by Voluntary Action Leeds. This has opened up alot more training opportunities for small groups and community members.
We are currently running the Gypsy & Traveller Community Health Educators course at Leeds GATE (Leeds Gypsy and Traveller Exchange). The course is becoming more and more popular within the community. It is run by Jon Hindley (Community Health Programmes Manager) who said "the class are fantastic, very enthusiastic and alot of fun." If you are interested and are from the Traveller community please contact Helen McAuslane at Leeds GATE on 0113 240 2613.
Our NEW Cooking On a Budget will replace the Five a Day cookery course and is being run by Jo Jenner. The first course starts on 12th November at St Margarets Church in Bramley. The course is two hours a week over six weeks and in light of the recent credit crunch we will be cooking healthy meals to a budget.
Over the next few months we will be piloting a new project called ‘Make Do, Grow and Mend’. This will be a series of workshops exploring how we can save money by mending, recycling, growing our own both in a small space and in an allotment and learning new skills by making a variety of things. As well as knitting, sewing and handicrafts, we will be exploring energy saving in our homes, money issues and general tips for making those pennies go further in a time where everyone is feeling the credit crunch pinch.
Lauren Harpham who has worked as a CHE for the last couple of years has now joined us as a Trainee Community Worker. Lauren has already started to develop the new Mens Health Project with some innovative and eye catching information to look out for! Lauren is also working on Saturdads and the forthcoming Young CHE Programme with Casey Russell our Training Development Worker.
